Tyler Colvin Watch: a four-game hitting streak can’t help the Thunderchickens

Yesterday was the 28th which means it was the deadline to get my league stats in.

Interesting piece of useless trivia:

The reason the deadline for our league is on the 28th of every month stems from the days when we all used the postal mail to send hard copies to the commissioner.  By sending them on the 28th, the commish would be sure to have them by the end of the month.  Of course, we all send them via email or shared storage services like Dropbox so it’s kind of a moot point but we never changed the date.

Well, I pressed ‘send’ to our commissioner at precisely 12:24am this morning.  Just don’t tell anyone in my league.

Tyler Colvin didn’t wow anyone in his first game in August (to be honest, these games were part of the mini-convention played up in Colona I wrote about earlier, I just got around to doing the stats).  He 0 for 4 and struck out three times.  But Colvin came around and got a few hits in the series against the Molly Putts Marauders who are managed by TAB reader Don Smith.  As a matter of fact, Tyler put together a FOUR game hitting streak.  That’s his season best.  He put a three game streak together to start the season and since then, he’s been pretty quiet till now.

For the series, he was 5 for 19 (.263) with 2 runs scored and one rbi so we’re not shooting off fireworks but at least Colvin’s batting average won’t dip for the third month in a row.  His season average of .151 still lags below the pitchers (.185).

As a team, the Twin Thunderchickens suffered a typical 3-6 loss against Molly Putts.  Typical in that run support was a little lacking.  Two starting pitchers (Jeremy Hellickson and Jon Niese) gave up just one run and still couldn’t get the win.

The Thunderchickens are 26-61 and looking towards 2013.  We’re lamenting the real life injury to Troy “shortstop of the future” Tulowitzski and deciding on one-year replacement options for him for next year.  Assuming we end up in last place (a foregone conclusion unless a miracle happens), we’ll end up with the first pick in the 2013 IAL rookie draft.  I’m confident with what I plan to do with that pick… as of right now I’m not tellin’.
