Loaded Pujols

I did a short post on Albert Pujols on The Baseball Zealot on how well he’s done this year in the majors with the bases loaded.  It’s nothing short of amazing.

For those who haven’t noticed, Albert Pujols has done amazingly well with the bases loaded this year.  Here are his stats with three runners on.

At this point in the season, Pujols is five for five with 3 homeruns and 16 rbis.

I’ve had Albert on my Twin City Thunderchickens since I drafted him as a rookie (first pick, of course!).  The Thunderchickens had Mark McGwire at first base for his whole career so we had big shoes to fill.  Fortunately, we were able to get some to get the job done right away.

Our commish, who is a Cardinals fan,  warned me that he thinks it will be a matter of a couple of years before Pujols will be rated (S).

Heresy!

  1. In the ILLOWA APBA Legaue, I walk Albert Pujols more often than I walk all the other hitters in the league combined.

He seldom bats against me with anybody on base and first base open.

I don’t think I have yet walked him with the bases loaded, but I don’t rule it out, either.

The year Pujols (2002 ILLOWA, 2001 Major League Season).was drafted, the first round of our rookie draft was: 1) Albert Pujols, 2) Adam Dunn, 3) Mark Buehrle, 4) Alfonso Soriano, 5) Juan Uribe, 6) Roy Oswalt, 7) Jimmy Rollins, 8) ICHIRO, 9) C C Sabathia, 10) Brian Lawrence.

    DonS.

  2. yes unfortunately, DonS is not the only manager to employ that strategy with Pujols :(

that was an exceptional draft for our league in 2002. Almost every player is still on a team and playing a significant role. (ehh Uribe, not so significant but he plays… not sure about Lawrence.)
