Game 1 of my Monsters vs Terribles series is in the books and it went just how you probably would have expected it.

Monsters Highlights: 1980 George Brett hit two homers and drove in five runs; 1931 Josh Gibson and 1911 Ty Cobb both went 4 for 6. Christy Mathewson pitched a CG shutout.
Terribles Highlights: 1930 Chick Fullis went 2 for 4 with 2 SB; 2011 Adam Dunn hit a double. 1978 Mike Fischlin went 1 for 3.
Obviously, the bar will be set low for the Terribles to make the Highlights. Fullis’ two stolen bases came on two 66-11s. Way to go, Chick! The Terribles pitching staff is being careful with 1921 Ruth. He was walked three times before he found a pitch he liked in the ninth.
I joked about 1930 Offa Neal earlier but he had a rough game. He came up with a runner ON SECOND (yes, very exciting for this team). He rolled a 45-39 to get Chick Fullis caught stealing. Then he rolled a 22-13 to strike out. Then in his last at-bat, with TWO runners on, he rolled a 55-13 for the same result.
Jim Duckworth (DW) actually didn’t pitch too badly. He allowed five runs in six innings. Relievers 2007 Dontrelle Willis and 1934 Si Johnson both gave up five runs as well.
Mathewson, on the other hand, was wondering who brought the little leaguers in to play.
And now you all know why I called him “O-fer” Neal.
Hiya Tom!
Bet they’ll average about 10-15 RPG…gonna be a loooooonnnnng series for the two T’s!
