MCM vs TCT: one last poll!

Starter Offa Neal is looks forward to a productive series *snicker*

One last poll.  I promise.

Take a look at the final rosters of the Tuesday Terribles and the Monday Monsters.  Just for fun, tell me how well do you think the Terribles will do against the Monsters in a 21-game short season?

Before you vote, here is a recap of my project.

Is this a “best-of” series, a tournament or what?

This is simply a 21-game head-to-head between the two teams.  If it were an elimination series, quite frankly, let’s just call it an eleven game series and be done with it.  Don’t tell Adam Dunn I said this.  He thinks they can win this.

Why am I doing this?

I’m not sure.  For fun, mostly.  To see if the worst team ever can maybe eke just one win over the best of the best.  To see how outlandish the stats will be.  And to see players from different eras, play with and against each other.

So who am I rooting for?

I always root for the underdogs.  I would love to see a DW advance to C.  Doubt that will happen.

What are the parameters for the series?

I’ll use the APBA Basic Baseball game, pretty much out of the box (I’ll ignore rainouts, though).  Three games at each place.  The Terribles will get the home field advantage.  They’ll start at home and end at home.  I’ll use a four-man rotation.

The Terribles have all Ds except Jack Fisher who is a CZ despite his 8-24 record.  The Monsters are all grade A or better except Ken Holtzman, B who makes up for that with his bat.  I’ll be loose with who can be used out of the pen.

Am I going to be strict with your starting lineup from game to game?

No.  It will essentially be a 21-game season so I’ll substitute guys in as I see fit.  Don’t worry, Red Sox fans, the Splendid Splinter will get his time in.  I would also like to get Honus Wagner in for a couple games.

Will I use the DH?

No.  This is a man’s game.

Will I keep stats?

Most definitely.  This is part of the fun of it.  I’ll keep batting and pitching stats and will even track errors too.

Are there any players I’m disappointed didn’t make the cut?

I was a little surprised that 1930 Chuck Klein only got two votes and one of those was mine.  Love that card!

Time to get the dice out!

I am an IT consultant by day and an APBA media mogul by night. My passions are baseball (specifically Illini baseball), photography and of course, APBA. I have been fortunate to be part of the basic game Illowa APBA League since 1980 as well as a frequent participant of the Chicagoland APBA Tournament. I am slogging through a 1966 NL replay and hope to finish before I die.

  1. Well this certainly promises to be an interesting project, and I am thinking about something similar but not this type of matchup to get a break from my current replay.

I have learned one thing is that any team can get lucky on the dice and steal a game on occasion. My guess is either one of Dontrelle Willis’ games or Fischer’s games is that moment.

I wonder if the Monsters can crack 40 runs in a game?

  2. Tom: I agree with you on 1930 Chuck Klein. I think I was the other vote. Surprised he did not get more support.

  3. This will be a stat lover’s dream. I expect some gaudy numbers on the Monster side. They should average over 10 runs a game. Curious to see how you keep everyone happy with plate appearances. It will be fun to see if you can get 4 or 5 or more players to get to 21 ribbies and/or runs. One a game.
Or you could save a guy like Teddy Ballgame and only use him to pinch hit when bases are full.
And I predict one no-hitter for the Monster staff.
