1966 NL replay All-Star ballot – Catcher

Sorry Jerry, you’re hitting .203 with one HR

Okay, here goes! This is my first ballot for the upcoming All-Star Game in my 1966 NL replay!!

During the ballot process, I’ll be posting images of players who didn’t make the cut… like the Mets’ Jerry Grote above.

The sixties was a decade when one catcher would catch both ends of a doubleheader and come back for more. No rest for these guys!

There are some very formidable All-Star candidates for catcher. John Bateman and Tim McCarver were strong early in the season (Bateman led in HR through April).

Joe Torre and (especially) Tom Haller have come on as of late May and June. As for John Roseboro, he gets credit for handling the best pitching staff in the league.

Here are the NL nominees for catcher

To provide some statistical context, here are my replay’s top ten leaders in hitting categories as of July 3rd.

Vote for two!!

Who should start represent the NL as catcher in the All-Star Game in my 1966 replay?

  • Torre, Joe ATL (56%, 41 Votes)
  • Haller, Tom SF (37%, 27 Votes)
  • McCarver, Tim STL (4%, 3 Votes)
  • Bateman, John HOU (1%, 1 Votes)
  • Roseboro, John LA (1%, 1 Votes)

Total Voters: 45

I have been fortunate to be part of the basic game Illowa APBA League since 1980 as well as a frequent participant of the Chicagoland APBA Tournament. I am slogging through a 1966 NL replay and hope to finish before I die.
