A little help: Walt from OAPBA is picking his All-Stars from the 60s

Let’s give Walt Taylor from OAPBA a hand.  He’s halfway through his solitaire 1960’s Project and needs a little help picking out the All-Stars.

I’ll let him tell you about it in his own words:

Good Evening!
I enjoy stopping by your blog to get information and your perspective on various topics involving APBA Baseball. I belong to OAPBA in Orlando, Florida and one of our Managers Rod Caborn contributes with what’s happening in our league to share with your readers. I am sending this email to get your help with a project I’m currently doing. It is the 1960’s Project. I am using select teams from the original APBA sets with the following criteria:
*Winning percentage between .525-.565
*Finished the season somewhere between second and fourth place in the league
*goal was to use at least one team from each year (1965 missed out) of the decade
*use one team from the original 16 (Yankees lost out due to either being too good or too bad!) Angels replaced them
I am using the DVAL playing boards as they do a great job blending the BG and MG and I have added xb’s to those teams that did not have them available before 1964. This will be an 84 game season and I am currently at the halfway point. Here are the standings after 42 games:
NL                                                  AL
1960 LA Dodgers    25-17                1969 OAK  A’s          25-17
1961 SF Giants      24-18                1964 DET Tigers        24-18
1966 PIT Pirates     24-18                1968 CLE Indians      24-18
1962 MIL Braves     21-21                1961 CHI White Sox  23-19
1967 CHI Cubs       20-22                1963 BAL Orioles      23-19
1963 PHI Phillies    19-23                1967 MIN Twins         18-24
1967 CIN Reds       18-24                1968 BOS Red Sox    16-26
1960 StL Cardinals 17-25               1962 LA Angels          15-27
Where I need your help is in selecting the all-stars for each league. I have attached a word document that lists the four best players at each position for both leagues. NL is above the AL on the ballot. Please select your choice for starter at each position as well as your second choice. You can make your selection a couple of ways. Highlight your first choice then change the font color to red and then your second choice to a blue font or send a separate email with your choices. If anyone has trouble pulling up the all-star ballot just let me know. Once I am done with the original sets I will go back and redo it again using the first reprint sets for each team and see what differences there are. This has been a lot of fun for me and to be honest its probably the only way I will ever use these sets going forward. Too many sets and not enough time to use them all. :)
I appreciate your time and Thanks!

You can download his ballot here and email it to the APBA Blog and I’ll forward it to Walt.
This reminds me of our commish of the IAL who incidentally is also replaying the 1960s.  He like Walt, asks us to fill out similar All-Star and end of year awards ballots.  Nice to have a little say in the replay even though we didn’t do all the work.
Matter of fact, I’ll forward this on to my league right now.

I am an IT consultant by day and an APBA media mogul by night. My passions are baseball (specifically Illini baseball), photography and of course, APBA. I have been fortunate to be part of the basic game Illowa APBA League since 1980 as well as a frequent participant of the Chicagoland APBA Tournament. I am slogging through a 1966 NL replay and hope to finish before I die.
