My friend John Brandeberry is replaying the 1938 season using the APBA Basic Game. He just emailed me the results of Johnny Vander Meer’s two consecutive starts in which he no-hit his opponents.
Vander Meer didn’t quite live up to reality but he gave it a good shot.
6-11-38 against the Boston Braves
Real Life: 9 IP 0 hits 0 runs 3 BB 4 Ks 2 HB
APBA: 9 IP 6 hits 2 runs 3 BB 4 Ks 1 HB
6-15-38 against the Brooklyn Robins
Real life: 9 IP 0 hits 0 runs 8 BB 7 Ks
APBA: 9 IP 1 hit 0 runs 2 BB 6 Ks
Not a bad performance by the Reds’ starter! Eight hits in two complete games.
At last! The first Brando sighting of the season! Baseball season is nearly here after all.
Nice to hear an update from you.
Yeah, Brando’s been busy with the ’38 season.
Hopefully, we’ll see him in a couple weeks at the IAL draft weekend.
