Two no-hitters in APBA-land… one replay and one in league play.
First, Mel M wrote in before the holidays about a Earl Wilson no-no during his 1967 replay:
June 4, 1967. Detroit at New York, game 1 of a Sunday twin bill.
Earl Wilson no hits the Yankees. Wilson walked Fritz Peterson with two out in the third, and walked Roy White leading of the 4th. White was erased on a double play.
Lennie Green, who replaced Willie Horton in left in the eighth, made a great play on a Tom Tresh liner (dice roll 53-15) leading off the inning.
Peterson walked five batters and the Yankees made 4 errors, but the only scoring came in the first when Al Kaline walked and Willie Horton launched his 10th home run of the year. It’s the third no hitter of the replay.
F. Jenkins…5/25
J. Lonborg…6/1
Then on Sunday, my Twin City Thunderchickens were the recipient of a Daniel Hudson no-hitter in Game 1 of our Skyped-series against Mike Bunch and his Green Rock Bombers.
Hudson (a BYZ) struck out 3 and walked 2 in the effort winning 2-0. It was especially painful for us as John Lackey, a D pitcher, pitched a masterpiece allowing only six hits in 9 innings and gave up just two runs. Lackey had advanced to a C before giving up his first run. I hate wasting good performances from my D pitchers.
Funny thing was, I don’t think Mike realized it was a no-hitter until I congratulated him after the game was over. *I* was aware of by the 6th or 7th inning. Bomber thirdbaseman Evan Longoria was doing his best to give the game away with two E-5s but Hudson hung tough.
By the way, things didn’t get much better after Game 1 for the Thunderchickens. We didn’t score our first run until the ninth inning of the third game and our first earned run until the fourth game. The Bombers won the 9-game series 6-3.
Big ups t’those nohit authors!!!!!….CONGRATS t’you guys playing the contests as well!….great start to the
holiday season!
