With these specs, Frank Howard can see just fine.  He’s leading the AL in homers.

Mel M sends us a quick snapshot of his ongoing 1967 AL replay.  Mel is using the APBA Baseball Master Game for this project.

It warms my heart to see names like Frank Robinson and Brooks Robinson in the leaderboards.  I think you know why

thanks, Mel!

  1. Nice to hear of a ’67 replay. I got about half way through the season many many years ago and someday would like to get back to it the Good Lord willing!

What version of the cards are you using Mel? It appears that the averages are holding up is that true?
Please continue to post- love this season!

  2. Hey Cluke, I hope you can start up your ’67 replay again.
I’m using the reissue from around 1990.. I started in 2006, so it’s going slow. I’ll be sending Tom the NL update soon.

  3. Great update. I’ve always loved the 1967 AL season because of the contrast in the teams involved in that pennant race — each with their own style of play. The White Sox played small ball and dared you to score against their pitching staff. The Tigers tried to club you into submission with their big bats. The Twins had a balanced pitching staff and Killebrew’s big bat. The Red Sox had the best pitcher and the best hitter and the Impossible Dream. Great season. Thanks for keeping us posted, Mel.

  4. Hey Tom, Jim and Scott V. It’s been such a long time since I played basic that I really don’t know.
Yaz is heating up, in April he had 0 homers, 7 in May and 8 HR 30 RBI and a .345 Avg. in June.
Go Twins indeed. Killebrew was my favorite AL player. The bottom of the Twins lineup is weak though.
I hope to start getting games in on a more consistent basis, but whenever I play ball it’s always a blast.
    Next stop the All-Star game.

    • Mel,

Love following your ’67 AL results. It sounds like Yaz is heating up. I am sure the Killer and Yaz will end up battling for the HR title. A guy I have corresponded with for years, Bill Kauzlarich from Farmington IL is very fond of the ’67 season. It is one of the first replays he ever completed, way back when. I think he is in the process of replaying it again, with the newer cards. He is also working on a 1959, both leagues replay. He is going the actual lineup route as well.

  5. Mel, I’m looking forward to the rest of the season. 1967 was terrific, four teams going into the final weekend with a shot to win the pennant. The Red Sox were in it because:
    • Yaz, Petrocelli, Scott and Lonborg improved significantly over 1966.
    • The key parts of the staff (Santiago, Wyatt, Stange) also improved.
    • Gary Bell was an upgrade.
That was enough to offset Joe Foy’s poor year and the August loss of Tony C.
Just don’t ask me to explain Dick Williams’ decisions in the Series.

  6. My dad always speaks of this season, and mentions how the Tigers came so close to an A.L. Pennant that season.

Good to see the Tigers on top, keep the updates coming!
