Paul over at One for Five is a Strat-O-Matic player who also plays the APBA Soccer Game. At this point, he’s taking on a mini-season and is planning to blog his results.
He promises a full review of the game later but if this posting is any indication, he seems to really like the APBA Soccer game despite its initial flaws.
I’ve only played the game a month, but I love it. It’s not perfect, but it’s terrifically fun, and it’s my new favorite soccer sim. I hope the joy I’m experiencing with the game comes across in my posts, because I hope to convert the doubtful; I want the game to succeed… All I know is that this soccer game is great, and with the innovations from the community, it’s getting better every day.
APBA Soccer fans (or those who are debating buying the game) might want to consider following this blog.
Thank you for the shout-out! John Herson himself commented on my blog this morning to address a couple of the things I brought up in the post you link to. I hope the blog can become a forum for APBA Soccer players and those who are considering trying the game to share ideas and thoughts on the game, the way your blog has been for other APBA products.
I really do appreciate you linking to oneforfive.com – thank you! If my blog gets to be half the blog yours is, I will consider it a terrific success.

lol, DonS. I almost deleted your comment thinking it was spam. Then I saw your username.
You know, a lot of people say the same about baseball. :)
I agree with Don S. I come by that opinion naturally. Back in my day during Middle and High School, the PE Teacher used to throw a soccer ball out on the ground and say “Play Soccer”, at which point we all laughed. To me soccer is horrendous to watch. Now having said that, I do understand that lots of younger folks came up playing competitively and learned the game, so APBA Soccer may be a blast for them. Me? It is all about baseball….can’t wait to get started on my solitaire 2007 replay!!
Those are interesting comments, Jack. It seems to me that the backlash against the release of the APBA Soccer game that came before the game was even released was from the old-timers who simply don’t know anything about – nor do they care anything about – soccer.
If APBA – and tabletop gaming in general – is going to survive long term, they’re going to have to aim at today’s youngest generations. Strat-o-Matic just released Baseball Express, which is a great game for kids aged 8-10 and, according to John Herson, APBA is in the play-testing phase of a quick-play version of Soccer for 4-7 year-olds. I think it’s brilliant and I think APBA’s Soccer game is the company’s future. I discussed this on my blog yesterday: http://www.oneforfive.com/?p=115
