After much deliberation, the Prairieland IV date and theme has been announced!
Springfield will host Prairieland for the second year in a row and thanks to Eric Berg, Todd Daniels, and Dave Rueck, we have an original idea for a “modular” team draft.
First, the important details:
- Date: April 13, 2019
- Location: Springfield, Illinois
- Cost: $20
Entire teams will not be used for this tourney. Instead, managers will draft “squads” from existing teams which are defined as “Infield”, “Outfield”, and “Pitchers”.
To add to the fun, once a squad is drafted from a team, no other squad of that type can be drafted from that franchise in that decade.

Full set of Prairieland IV Rules (subject to change):
Draft Rules:
Groupings:
- Infield (Infield defined as 1B, 2B, 3B, SS)
- Outfield (Outfield defined as OF, C, DH)
- Pitchers (STAFFS MUST BE 1970-Now)
3 Rounds of drafting
# The term squad is used below in regards to Infield, Outfield, or Pitching Staff.
*When a squad# of a team is taken that squad is gone for the rest of that decade.
- Ex: 1995 Braves Pitching is drafted, no other Braves Pitchers for the 90’s can be taken
- Ex2: 1927 Yankees Outfielders taken, no other 1920’s Yankees outfield can be taken
*Once an offense is taken that team for that year is locked (the pitchers can still be taken and vice-versa)
Ex: The 2016 Cubs infielders are taken, the 2016 Cubs outfield is not available but the 2016 Cubs pitching staff is available.
*DH can come from any source after the draft. However, you only get players who played the DH “position” 30 games if you drafted the outfield for that team.
*To qualify for being drafted for a position that player has to have played at least 30 games starting at that position. This is combined for “like” positions. Exceptions to this rule appear below in the bench section.
Ex. If a player plays 20 games in RF and 10 games in LF and you draft his team’s OF you would get that player. If a player played 5 1B, 5 2B, 5 SS, 15 3B he would be included when you draft Infield.
*Bench: Any player with at least 30 starts in either the Infield or Outfield group qualifies from being part of the bench for your team. The rest of your bench will be comprised of:
- Any player with less than 30 starts combined in either category and more than 100AB will be included.
Ex: Tommy LaStella would be included for the 2018 Cubs IF or OF squad. He started 22 games on the infield and 2 games at DH. He had 169AB
- Any player with less than 100AB is included as long as they started at least 1 game at an eligible position for your squad# you drafted.
Ex: Lenny Harris started 1 game at DH in 2005 and had 70AB. If you took the 2005 Marlins Outfield he would be included. He never started at an infield position so he would not be included with them.
Game Rules:
- Relievers can only pitch one inning starting in the 6th inning (unless the SP has been grade reduced)
- Batters must have 100 ABs to start
- Any player with <100 ABs can be brought into the game in the 6th inning.
- Starting Pitchers must have 110 IP to qualify to start
*In the case where you don’t have 4 pitchers with 110IP your 4 starters would have to have the most IP available for that team.
- 4 man rotations
- DH allowed
- Whichever team wins would have their overall first pick locked (if we were to continue the format).
These rules are in mind expecting around 25 teams, more or less and we can adjust.
