Florida Tournament: Arthur Sparks takes a spring break with the 1950 Yanks

I heard back from Anthony Stevens who hosted the Happy Days themed Florida’s Spring Break from Reality APBA Baseball Tournament.  Tony sent me the standings of the tourney.  Congrats to Arthur Sparks who won the tournament with the 1950 New York Yankees!

Here are the full standings:

The Finals Standings of the Florida’s Spring Break from Reality APBA Baseball Tournament were:
1. 1950 New York Yankees 8-2 (Arthur Sparks)
2. 1968 Detroit Tigers 7-3 (Tommy Minton)
3. 1963 Chicago White Sox 6-4 (John Cody)
*4. 1960 Pittsburgh Pirates 5-5 (Phil Blinn)
*5. 1969 New York Mets 5-5 (Tony Stevens)
*6. 1964 Philadelphia Phillies 5-5 (Steve Greenberg)
*7. 1961 Cincinnati Reds 4-6 (Rob Vorbroker)
**8. 1954 Cleveland Indians 4-6 (Anthony Orlando)
**9. 1969 Baltimore Orioles 4-6 (Mike Sparks)
**10. 1967 St. Louis Cardinals 4-6 (Gary Blackman)
11. 1961 New York Yankees 3-7 (Al Billups)
* indicates that the order was decided based on the tie breaker of head-to-head games.
** indicates that the order was decided based on the tie breaker of run differential against the other teams with the same record.

Interestingly, the 1961 Yankees came in last.

Congrats to Arthur and kudos to Tony for a successful tournament.

I am an IT consultant by day and an APBA media mogul by night. My passions are baseball (specifically Illini baseball), photography and of course, APBA. I have been fortunate to be part of the basic game Illowa APBA League since 1980 as well as a frequent participant of the Chicagoland APBA Tournament. I am slogging through a 1966 NL replay and hope to finish before I die.

One Comment:

  1. Very close tournament. #10, ’67 Cardinals (Gary Blackman) had an opportunity to finish 4th if he won his last game, but just couldn’t pullout a hot ’54 Indians team (Anthony Orlando) whose team was surging at the end of the day. ’60 Pirates (Phil Blinn) were similar. Started out 0-4, barely scoring a few runs, but finished strong. ’69 mets (Tony Stevens) ace Tom Seaver pitched a no-hitter against the ’69 Orioles (Mike Sparks). Couldn’t have picked a more appropriate team to do that to IMHO.

Thanks everyone for being flexible and making the day fun. Looking forward to Saturday, October 20th.
