I always like hearing about new tournaments that spring up. Dan Prizzon contacted me to let me know about his Toronto APBA Baseball Classic tournament on May 11th which seemed to be an apparent success!
Here is Dan’s recap:
What a great day for an APBA Baseball Tournament! Eleven players played in the 1st Annual Toronto APBA Baseball Classic!
Competing in a grueling 10-game round robin the 1979 Cardinals, 1976 A’s, 1968 A’s and the 1998 Blue Jays managed to move on to the playoffs. The 1976 A’s managed by George Kaldis eventually swept the 1979 Cardinals managed by Ed Hebscher in the Finals.
Both teams got off to rough starts, but caught fire as the day progressed.
Special thanks to everyone that attended and all those who couldn’t make it but have supported the tournament from its inception. Extra special to Ed Trojanowski who crossed the border and made the drive to come join us as our long traveller. Also thanks to Howie Mooney who managed to take these great photos. Last but certainly not least thank you to Alan Lipman for all the help in organizing the event, talent with the artwork and plaque and providing the great facility.
Congratulations to George Kaldis! Plus, a special kudos to Dan Prizzon for making it through a successful tournament!
I just want to say great choice to the guy rocking the Durham Bulls jersey.
Couldn’t agree more. Was thinking the same thing. As well, I noticed a H. Mooney scoresheet in one of the images. Always wonderful to see that. Well done, everyone. Perhaps a wee venture from Upstate NY is in order next year?
