Glass City to start rolling this weekend

I want to wish Ron Emch good luck this weekend. He’s hosting his fifth Glass City APBA Baseball Tournament on Saturday. Why “Glass City”? Because the tournament’s home Toledo, Ohio is dubbed as such for its industrial glass manufacturers. Nice touch, Ron!

I’m not able to attend this year but I’ve been privy to the communications that Ron has been sending out to the participants. He is one prepared dude! I can see why GCABT has been one popular tourneys. A well-run tourney is a happy tourney!

In his notes, Ron had this piece of wisdom:

APBA Experience. Some of the players who come to my tournament are not regular APBA gamers. Therefore, their knowledge of the results booklet will be limited. To the experienced players who have parts of the results booklet memorized, please allow the non experienced player time to read the result if they want to.

This is excellent advice and something I will try to heed myself. I’ve been told I know the boards pretty well. That doesn’t mean I should immediately blurt out the result and take away the “APBA Experience” from someone who might be new to the game.

We can expect to see some good video footage from this weekend. Ron does an excellent job of documenting tournaments.

Ron Emch took a break from rolling at Chicagoland to take a video

You can see videos from past tournaments here at his YouTube channel.

This year, there will be 38 attendees at Glass City. Currently, here is the list of participants and their respective teams in the 2019 GCABT-V:

I am an IT consultant by day and an APBA media mogul by night. My passions are baseball (specifically Illini baseball), photography and of course, APBA. I have been fortunate to be part of the basic game Illowa APBA League since 1980 as well as a frequent participant of the Chicagoland APBA Tournament. I am slogging through a 1966 NL replay and hope to finish before I die.
