INDY APBA 500 Baseball Tournament to make its debut in September

Hoosier Dave Chestnut is kicking off the inaugural Indy APBA 500 Baseball Tournament to be held September 14, 2019. I’ve known Dave since last year’s Prairieland tourney. The one thing that struck me about Dave was that he was more than happy to talk about college baseball (one of my passions).

Straight from Dave, here are the details of the INDY 500 tourney:

Hopefully becoming an annual event, we are accepting APBA DiceRolling Lovers to the 1st ever INDY APBA 500 Baseball Tournament. No, we aren’t racing INDY 500 cars. We are turning teams with .500 or LESS winning percentages into Winners. This year we will be using teams with a .500 or LESS winning percentage from the 1950-1972 eras with NO DH. Rosters will be set at 20 players from these teams.

The Tourney will consist of 2 conferences of 12 teams each (24 teams) divided into six (6) 4 team Divisions-3 Divisions in each Conference. Each team will use a 3 Man SP Rotation and will play a 3 gm series against each of it division rivals.

After that, the Knockout Rounds beginsĀ
All teams will be seeded 1 through 12 in each Conference
EVERY TEAM IN THE TOURNAMENT HAS A CHANCE TO WIN THE TOURNAMENT CHAMPIONSHIP
That’s right. Even if your team goes 0-9 in Divisional Play.. you still could win the Tournament.

The 6 division winners (3 from each Conference) and 2 Wild Card Teams (1 in each conference) will get a 1st round bye with the other 16 clubs competing Those winners join the teams with the bye in a 2nd round of 16 (8 in each Conference). Then down to 4 in each Conference. Then Conference Championship Games. Then Tournament Championship Game between the Conference Champions.

Awards to be given to Division Champions, Conference Champions, and to the Tournament Winner.

As stated above, each team is Guaranteed 9 Division Games plus 1 or more Knockout Round Games.

Our tournament will always strive to make winners out of mediocre teams.

Cost will be $25 per team

I am slogging through a 1966 NL replay and hope to finish before I die.
