Thanks to the Zavelas, the GCABT-VIII is back on!

Good news! The Toledo-based Glass City APBA Baseball Tournament-VIII is back on!

Norm and Zach Zavela step up.

Tournament organizer Ron Emch had to cancel the GCABT-VIII (for a very good reason). Enter father-son duo Norm and Zach Zavela. They have both volunteered to organize the tourney for this season.

The GCABT is back on for 2023! Here is Ron’s announcement…

8th Annual Toledo Glass City APBA Baseball Tournament (GCABT-VIII).

It will be on Saturday, August 26th at the Maumee-Bowling Green Elks Lodge #1850 137 W Wayne St, Maumee, Ohio 43537, same place as last year starting at 9:00 am.

Cost: $15.00.

The tournament will be managed by the father-son team of Norm and Zach Zavela, as I will be traveling on tournament day. I sincerely want to thank Norm and Zak for stepping up to allow the tradition to continue.

The theme is ‘The Strikeout Era’.

Only teams from 1995 to the present will be allowed. Also, no divisional winners. The DH will be used along with a 3-man rotation.

The rest of the rules will be pretty much the same as in previous years.

On June 1st, I will randomly determine a draft order for coaches who have already signed up. You will be able to pick a team at that time. After that, coaches can pick a team at their leisure.
To sign up, just " title="">email me.

Ron

I can attest that the GCABT is a fun time. While I have never actually participated in the tourney, I stopped by in 2021 while it was going on. As you might be able to tell from the photos below, everyone was having a lot of fun.

Thanks to the Zavelas for taking this on!

I am an IT consultant by day and an APBA media mogul by night. My passions are baseball (specifically Illini baseball), photography and of course, APBA. I have been fortunate to be part of the basic game Illowa APBA League since 1980 as well as a frequent participant of the Chicagoland APBA Tournament. I am slogging through a 1966 NL replay and hope to finish before I die.
