APBA’s single team sale: How to buy them and what team I’m getting

baseball single

The APBA Game Company is now offering single baseball teams and from what I have seen, the response is quite favorable.  Perhaps because of the popularity of competitive tournaments, the sale of single teams do not require buying a whole set to use one team from that particular season.

First, how do you buy a single baseball team?

At APBA’s shopping store, it is the first item listed as “Baseball Single team”.  You can buy one team at a cost of $8.00 (plus shipping).  At this point, only Baseball teams are offered.  Here is the direct link to the Baseball Single team item.  Look for this image you see above.

Important:  When you place your order, you must list what team(s) you want in the comment field of APBA’s ordering form.  After you place your order, you will get an email notification if you request it (I recommend that).

What teams am I ordering?

frobbie66It sounds strange but I placed an order for the 1966 Baltimore Orioles.  “But Tom, you already have the 1966 set. You are doing the 1966 NL replay”, you may be thinking. That is correct.  However, I played the 1966 Orioles at the 2013 Chicagoland Tournament.  I can be distracted at times when coming back from a tournament and I don’t always return the team back to the rest of the set.  I’ve looked and looked but the Orioles are nowhere to be found.

“That’s fine, Tom but why is it so important to have the Orioles?  You’re replaying the National League, right?”  Well tonight, I just finished June 19th and the 1966 All-Star game is on the horizon.  I’ll need Brooks, Frank and Andy Etchebarren (really?) among others if I want to replay that game as well.  On that vein, I’ll be coming up with a polling scheme so readers can vote for NL All-Stars (the AL All-Star will be the same).

Are any of you ordering single baseball teams?  If so, what teams are getting?  Would you like to see this for other sports like football or hockey too?

I am an IT consultant by day and an APBA media mogul by night. My passions are baseball (specifically Illini baseball), photography and of course, APBA. I have been fortunate to be part of the basic game Illowa APBA League since 1980 as well as a frequent participant of the Chicagoland APBA Tournament. I am slogging through a 1966 NL replay and hope to finish before I die.

  2. I haven’t committed to a team, but when your card arrives let me know if any of the pitching grades changed. Also do you get the extra players with that team or is it just the base 25 cards?

  3. I’m getting the ‘50 Phil’s “Whiz Kids” – the team that started the APBA Baseball world!

  4. When did they stop doing this? I have been trying to put together a season of great teams (pre-1990) which obviously I could use great teams of the past for which I have. But I wanted to throw in a few of the worst teams ever (62 Mets, 69 Pilots, 88 Orioles, 35 Braves)
