Should APBA be in the (Toy) Hall of Fame?

apbabaseball1APBA Baseball gets a mention on the Chicago Tribune’s article, Best sports toys ever: What’s missing from the Hall of Fame

The National Toy Hall of Fame made their annual induction selections recently.  Bubbles, Little Green Army Men and Rubik’s Cube were inducted.  The Tribune listed the APBA Game as an omission from their Hall.

Also listed among the Trib’s suggestions was Strat-O-Matic Baseball.

I am an IT consultant by day and an APBA media mogul by night. My passions are baseball (specifically Illini baseball), photography and of course, APBA. I have been fortunate to be part of the basic game Illowa APBA League since 1980 as well as a frequent participant of the Chicagoland APBA Tournament. I am slogging through a 1966 NL replay and hope to finish before I die.

  1. C’mon guys! The stick and the ball are among
the original inductees. Even with 58 honorees
(I think) I think APBA is still on the outside looking in for a very long time. After all, the paper plane didn’t make it this year.

This is a tough, tough HOF to crack.

  2. Oh, indeed. After all,the ball and stick may be the toy equivalent of Ruth and Gehrig but how many kids are still playing with the same toy they picked up at 15 decades later?
Not many I’d be willing to venture. So, HOF or not, APBA is still the greatest.
