Merry Monster Card Monday! 2007 Matt Holliday

I have posted Matt Holliday’s 2007 card seven years ago but considering that Christmas lies on a Monday this year, I couldn’t resist the temptation to post it again.

2007 Matt Holliday

Led NL with:

  • .340 batting average
  • 216 hits
  • 137 rbis
  • 50 doubles

For the Rockies, Holliday vindicated his breakout year in 2006 by outdoing himself in 2007. The slugger led the NL in some pretty major categories. In 158 games, his 216 hits, 50 doubles, .340 batting average, and 137 rbis all paced the league. So did his 386 total bases. Any time a hitter approaches 400 TB I pay attention.

Holliday ended the season with a .607 slugging percentage and a .405 OBP. He even managed to steal eleven bases.

The left fielder came very close to winning the NL MVP losing out to Philly shortstop Jimmy Rollins who also had a career year in 2007. By the way, if you are a slugging fan, the 2007 set is for you. Lots of fun cards.

Mulling over Matt

Holliday had so many plate appearances in 2007 that his APBA card may seem a little down for what you might expect. With 713 PA, he will have plenty of time to get those 92 extra base hits (and even those 63 walks). At least with some luck, he will.

He will do that with five power numbers. Specifically, he has 1-0-0-0-0 with seven ones in the second column. He also has four singles in the second column which will be the bane of Holliday fans.

To replicate his .340 batting average, Holliday has a 55-7 plus a 15-10 against three 14s. I was dubious that this would hit .340 so I did a really quick estimate and all things equal, he would hit about .330. Then again, 2007 was NOT a typical year and perhaps pitching was down.

As for the 15-10 and Holliday’s 11 steals, I am surprised that the singles in his second column are not 11s. That might help boost his steal rate.

Misc. Matt

  • Holliday was plunked ten times in 2007. To replicate that, he has a 23-22 and a 53-15.
  • Looking in the second column, Holliday has an odd (but not unheard of) 51-3.
  • Lots of 24s on Holliday’s 2007 card, three to be specific. He grounded into 23 double plays. At first glance, it’s deceiving because the 12 is at 41.
  • I dig the 21-40!
But was he safe?

I want to wish everyone out there a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays! Have a safe and stress-free holiday time with those you love. Thanks to all of you for being part of this awesome APBA community!
