Nothing like starting the week off with a brand new MVP. This card belongs to Jose Abreu of the White Sox who took the AL MVP this year.
Righty Abreu hit 19 homers with 60 rbis this year (it’s going to take a while to get used to translating to 2020 numbers!). It was the second year in a row that he led the AL in rbis. Most importantly, Abreu hit .317 which contributed to his league-leading 148 total bases.
Abreu also led in another category… he had 10 GIDPs.
Split | G | PA | AB | R | H | 2B | 3B | HR | RBI | SB | BB | SO | BA | OBP | SLG |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
2020 Totals | 60 | 262 | 240 | 43 | 76 | 15 | 0 | 19 | 60 | 0 | 18 | 59 | .317 | .370 | .617 |
If you can get past the four 24s and seven 13s (I’ve seen worse in this set), Abreu’s 2020 card is MVP-worthy. In addition to double ones, he has three zeros plus a 55-7.
Despite his 32-13 and 52-13, Abreu does have two 31s on his card. I most likely would not hit and run with this card though.
Jose did improve his fielding too. His fielding rating jumped from a 1B-3 in 2019 to a 1B-4 in 2020. He still remains a slow baserunner.
My buddy Dan Bunch has Abreu on his Illowa APBA League team but has admitted in the past he isn’t a fan of the slugger. I wonder if he has changed his tune yet.
