For a few years, Dick Dietz had good going with the San Francisco Giants as their catcher. He even batted .300 with 107 rbis in 1970. But it wasn’t always that way. His rookie year backing up Tom Haller (go Illini!) at San Fran was a bit of a bust.
“Mule” Dietz went 1 for 23 in 1966. It was a single. Dietz also was hit by pitch and scored one run (driven in by the way, a previous Monster Card 1966 Ray Sadecki).

1966 Totals | 13 | 3 | 24 | 23 | 1 | 1 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 9 | .043 | .083 | .043 |
Dietz’ 1966 card was so bad that the APBA card makers moved his error number to 55. His unusual numbers were moved up to 15 and 25.
Dietz did however, receive a 45-42 due to the hit by pitch. He appropriately did not get any 14s since he did not walk in 1966.
Ugly numbers: 55-18, 15-36, 25-38
Dietz went on to hit for a .261 batting average and knocked out 66 homers in his eight-year career.
Somehow I missed this. I really liked Dick Deitz. I sent him a letter when I was a child, asking for his autograph, which he sent, on a picture postcard, in 1970. I still have it.
