Weird Card Wednesday: 1970 Bobby Grich

grich

Tom Allshouse is thinking the 1970 Bobby Grich reprint card is a candidate for Weird Wednesday.

First, he has first column 2 at 66.  Also, his second column number at 66 is a 4 (so if you roll an 11-0 then a 66, still no homerun).  Not only that, he only has eleven power numbers in the second column.  He has a 42-11 in the second column.

Honestly, still can’t get used to seeing Grich card without a 2b-8, either.

thanks, Tom!

I have been fortunate to be part of the basic game Illowa APBA League since 1980 as well as a frequent participant of the Chicagoland APBA Tournament. I am slogging through a 1966 NL replay and hope to finish before I die.

  1. Hi Tom,

APBA seems to be doing this with guys who have “gap” power but either low batting averages but what I would consider a higher then expected slugging percentage.

In my 1903 replay Indians star Elmer Flick has a strangeness similar to this. He has a 6-2 at 11, 0-2 at 33 and a 2-1 at 66. He hit over .300 but had only the one homer.

I have not looked up his numbers, but would imagine he had a lot of triples and doubles, but they did not want to give him too many HR options.
