Beau Lofgren sent this doozy of an APBA card a while back. This is Rodney McCray’s last card of his career in 1992 with the New York Mets.
Long story short… McCray went 1 for 1 but because he was used as a pinch runner fourteen times, he accumulated two stolen bases and scored three runs.
Split | G | AB | R | H | 2B | 3B | HR | RBI | SB | CS | BB | SO | BA | OBP | SLG |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
1992 Totals | 18 | 1 | 3 | 1 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 1 | 2 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 1.000 | 1.000 | 1.000 |
The APBA cardmakers doled out a total of twelve 11s and one ten to Rodney McCray for his 1992 card. That includes a 22-11, a 13-11 and a 42-11. That also includes a 64-10. Even more strange, he received a 66-6* despite never hitting a double in his entire career.
His “non-speed” hit numbers were in fun places too. He has a 26-8, a 61-8, a 46-9 and a 62-9.
thanks Beau!! I enjoy following your Hawley Baseball team!!
Just another reminder of why I’ll never go back to APBA. Any Statistics101 student can understand that having confidence in such tiny sample sizes is pure silliness. Almost as bad as rewarding a pitcher for hitting a fluke double in the post season.
Of course I understand that the company makes cards based on the expectations of its customers, and not mine. :)
