Kevin Weber sent me an APBA GO snip of Adalberto Mondesi’s 2018 card recently thinking it would be a candidate for Weird Card Wednesday. Indeed, it was strange for several reasons.
So I logged in to APBA GO to check myself. It seems that Mondesi’s incorrect stolen base total of ‘3’ was edited to the correct number of ’32’.
Regardless, it is still a “Weird Card”.
There is very little chance that Mondesi (Raul’s son, by the way) will reach first without stealing second base. Whether it be after a walk, hit, or an error, the green light is on.
Split | G | PA | AB | R | H | 2B | 3B | HR | RBI | SB | CS | BB | SO | BA | OBP | SLG |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
2018 Totals | 75 | 291 | 275 | 47 | 76 | 13 | 3 | 14 | 37 | 32 | 7 | 11 | 77 | .276 | .306 | .498 |
KC’s Mondesi’s 2018 card is actually pretty good with power numbers 1-4-5-5 and two 11s. He only has one 14 thanks to his .306 OBP. That produces an ouch-inducing 13-13.
The big head-turner on Mondesi card is the asterisks. Most notable are the stars on the 9s which are a new concept for the APBA Company.
Adalberto Mondesi is a J-3 and is good for a total 275 at-bats with this card. I honestly don’t know what the going rate is for an asterisk. How many stolen bases can we expect a full-timer to get from a 14*. The 9* and 19* are very dependent on defensive and pitching opponents, of course.
Edit: I also just noticed the incorrect G and AB totals on the original card. 291 games Yikes!
