Acuna matata! Yeah, you know who goes #1 in BOS draft!

The Boys of Summer APBA Baseball League (16-team, BBW) has started their draft for the 2019 season. And well, it should not be too much of a surprise how the first round is going. It’s the usual gang of usual suspects.

Ronald Acuna has gone first, a solid pick by the South Side Spartans. Juan Soto came second followed by Gleyber Torres and Shohei Ohtani.

  1. South Side ACUNA, Ronald
  2. Portland (from Seattle) SOTO, Juan
  3. Urbana TORRES, Gleyber
  4. Vancouver OHTANI, Shohei
  5. DeWitt KELLER, Brad
  6. Buffalo MIKOLAS, Miles
  7. Corktown( from Micatin) RODRIGUEZ, Dereck
  8. King Road MUNCY, Max
  9. Brooklyn MEADOWS, Austin
  10. Holland TUCKER, Kyle

The same two have gone 1-2 in the RCMBA draft as well as the TBL draft before that. In addition, Torres and Ohtani were chosen in the top five in both of those leagues. We’re definitely seeing a pattern.

By the way, the Gleyber Torres pick was mine. I did that with TWO players rated 2B-9 already on my Urbana Locomotives roster. Just two minutes later, I sealed a deal with fellow manager Chris Demercurio to send LeMahieu to Corktown to help with Urbana’s dearth of catching.

Taking a gamble seems to be the theme of my league strategy this year. I traded for Manny Machado in the Illowa League before he was picked up by the Padres (and not knowing what position he was going to play).

The BOS League will be conducting its draft over email over the course of the next week or two.

Good luck to the BOS managers in 2019!

I have been fortunate to be part of the basic game Illowa APBA League since 1980 as well as a frequent participant of the Chicagoland APBA Tournament. I am slogging through a 1966 NL replay and hope to finish before I die.

One Comment:

  1. Very nice quick write-up of the Boys of Summer league, Tom! My strategy has definitely been interesting while risking (trading Corey Kluber), but I am excited to be getting some younger pieces in place.
