John Briggs sends in a report about the postseason of the Roberto Clemente Memorial Baseball Association which just finished its 50th season.
The Atlanta Black Crackers owner Bob Fenili seen here celebrating the 50th RCMBA title. Bob’s crew made it into the playoffs as the top wildcard seed after collecting 94 wins during the regular season.
They began their playoff run with a Round One victory over Manhattan, winning 3 of 4 and their 2nd win in that series featured a no-hitter by Aaron Civale. In Round Two they went up against defending champion Syracuse and whooped my butt in a 4 game sweep! Ronald Acuna led the way with 10 hits. That set up a Championship Round of Atlanta against Albuquerque who won the Harwell Division beating Atlanta by 4 games. The Horsemen had a first-round bye & won their Round Two match against Ottawa in 7 games.
In the Championship finals beginning in Albuquerque, Atlanta won the opener by stunning 20-1 scored. Albuquerque bounced back in game two with a 5-4 win in 12 innings. It was now Atlanta at home and it never got back to Albuquerque. Atlanta posted three straight wins of 11-8, 2-0 and 8-4 to claim the title behind another huge series from Ronald Acuna (seen getting a hug from Bob). He had 8 hits, 3 deep and drove in 9. Mike Fisher (on the right) happy as can be watching Bob celebrate.
Bob post series said “I know we were predicted to win it all by Dickie V but I can’t believe we won. Ronald Acuna and Corbin Carroll are our co-MVP’s and carried us to this title. I can’t tell you how much this means to me but also to our fans here at the Poncey. I can’t wait for that beautiful plaque ceremony at Lancaster”.
