The Great APBA Fan Survey: Follow-up

Yesterday, I finally posted the last set of results from The Great APBA Fan Survey.  If you missed any, I’m putting links to each set below so you can check them out.

A few final comments and acknowledgements

First, I would like to thank everyone for participating.  The response was greater than I expected. I guess it shows that no matter what our opinion is on one topic or another, we certainly want to be heard.  Speaking of being heard, I can tell you that John Herson from the APBA Company HAS been paying attention to the survey results so I hope that something good can come from this other than just idle curiosity.

Also, I want to thank those who helped by making suggestions and helpful tips in setting up the survey.  It was greatly appreciated.

This was my first time doing a survey of any sort and of course, as time went by I realized there were some things I might do differently and certain questions popped up that I wished I had asked.  I tried to stay from personal questions but perhaps it might have been nice to ask people’s gender.  Are there any women APBA players out there?  I’m sure there are.

Other questions that came to mind after it was too late:

  • Have you ever encountered cheating of any sort playing APBA?
  • Do you ever play APBA with your spouse/significant other?
  • For those in keeper leagues, have you ever found yourself rooting against your favorite MLB team when your league pitcher is on the mound (or up to bat)?

I might make this survey a annual event so keep an eye out next spring for the Second Annual Great APBA Fan Survey.

I am an IT consultant by day and an APBA media mogul by night. My passions are baseball (specifically Illini baseball), photography and of course, APBA. I have been fortunate to be part of the basic game Illowa APBA League since 1980 as well as a frequent participant of the Chicagoland APBA Tournament. I am slogging through a 1966 NL replay and hope to finish before I die.

    Tom,

I so enjoy my daily visits to your blog and reading all of your posts even though I’m a football guy and the majority of your content is baseball related. The following question you posed “Have you ever encountered cheating of any sort playing APBA?” reminds me of countless briefings I sat through in my 20-year military career when my commanding officers would be talking about “Integrity” (i.e., Doing the right thing when no one is looking). Well, not to speak out of turn but I’ve played countless games with my “favorite” team and man the game would come down to the wire and your hoping and praying for that 66 but roll that 46…now, that is “Integrity” scoring the game correctly .
