MCM vs TCT Game 2: ‘31 Grove pitches no-hitter against Tuesday Terribles

grove31

On Facebook, Tom Zuppa had a few predictions for my Monsters vs. Terribles series before I started,

• The Monsters will average at least 10 runs per game.
• The Terribles will score a total of 10 runs.
• A Monster starter will hit .500.
• There will be a no-hitter.

Well, Mr Smartypants is pretty on target after two games.  The Monsters have hit double figures both times, the Terribles have yet to score and yes, we already have a no-hitter.   ‘31 Lefty Grove (A&CYZ) threw a nine inning no-hit game against the Terribles in Game Two.  He struck out eight, walked two and hit one batter (says ‘67 Reggie Jackson was crowding the plate).

Not that he needed it but the Monsters gave him plenty of support with eleven runs to work with.

WP- ‘31 Grove (1-0), LP- ‘73 Blass (0-1) HR- ‘11 Cobb (1)

Monsters Highlights:  Well, there’s ‘31 Grove’s no-hitter, for starters.  ‘11 Ty Cobb continues to hit going 3 for 6 with a double and a homer.  ‘21 Babe Ruth hit two doubles (both 55-6s!).  ‘27 Lou Gehrig, who is wondering why he his batting seventh in the lineup, went 2 for 4 with a triple and four rbis.

Terribles Highlights:  ‘73 Steve Blass did give up 6 runs in the first but then pitched three scoreless innings including a 1-2-3 second.  That’s the only one so far.  ‘85 Matt Young only gave up one run in three innings.

Maybe it’s time to bring in the second stringers!

  1. Hi Tom!
Congratulations to The Lanaconing Lumber Buzzer and You too!

  2. Thomas,

Thanks for this little replay. I have been following the voting process and will follow all the game results.

If Gehrig is batting 7th with that monster card would you post your line up?

Thanks and keep rollin’ the 66s!!!!

  3. I had predicted a no-hitter as well. I may want to call a second one at this juncture.
I think Grove can pull a JVM and get consecutive no-no’s.
Can we have a leader update after 4 or 5 games? I’d like to see who is tops in ribbies, runs scored, etc.
This project is fun for those of us in the bleachers. You must be having a blast.
