Don George documents his 1979 Nolan Ryan replay

Frequent contributor Don George emailed me about his latest project, Nolan Ryan in 1979. I love Ryan and am a 1970s baseball fan so this is up my alley.

Don gave a recap of his project…

Nolan Ryan led the 1979 Angels to an additional three wins in the replay versus actual play.

The Angels batted .021 above their average and recorded 12% more Total Bases in the replay.

Ryan fired 13 additional strikeouts and relinquished 10 additional walks in the replay versus actual play.

Interestingly, in Ryan’s 1974 replay, he undershot his actual strikeout total with 317 versus 367 and undershot his actual walk total with 161 versus 202.

In both years, APBA assigned Ryan (K)(W).

Don’s recap includes stats, highlights and even boxscores of pivotal games during his 1979 replay. That includes California’s 4-2 win over Seattle in which Ryan struck out sixteen Mariners.

I am an IT consultant by day and an APBA media mogul by night. My passions are baseball (specifically Illini baseball), photography and of course, APBA. I have been fortunate to be part of the basic game Illowa APBA League since 1980 as well as a frequent participant of the Chicagoland APBA Tournament. I am slogging through a 1966 NL replay and hope to finish before I die.
