Get your spot! LBS IX happening October 28

I wrote about this a few months ago but here is another nudge…

For those of you wanting to experience an APBA tournament or try another one, here is a great opportunity. Darren and Ken Schulz, the brothers from Slippery Rock, PA, are putting on the ninth Linda B. Schulz Memorial APBA Baseball Tournament this fall!

The Schulz brothers with last year’s winner Tim Rounds

I have not been to LBS tournaments but everything I have read on social media claims they are top notch. Everyone seems to have a great time! And personally, I have had excellent rapport with both Ken and Darren. It is definitely on my bucket list to attend one of these.

Here are the details

Where: Slippery Rock Township Building, 155 Branchton Road, Slippery Rock PA

When: Saturday, October 28, 2023 at 9:00 AM EST (Please arrive by 8:45 AM.)

Cost: $20.00 cash only at the registration table

LBS IX Theme

There is a theme for this year’s LBS. Quoting from the release:

Our theme this year will be “Lovable Losers” which means that ALL MLB teams must be below a .500 winning percentage to participate. Teams from the 2020 APBA Set are the only ones not eligible as all retired championship teams are above .500. (APBA issued cards only-no copies allowed-Please keep in mind that the APBA Journal did issue black and white, hand-cut XBs back in the 60s for the original sets. Those are legal to use).

If this interests you, I encourage you to sign up for LBS IX. Best hurry as 44 people have already registered for the event!

Good luck to the Schulz brothers as well as the tourney participants!

Thomas Nelshoppen

I am an IT consultant by day and an APBA media mogul by night. My passions are baseball (specifically Illini baseball), photography and of course, APBA. I have been fortunate to be part of the basic game Illowa APBA League since 1980 as well as a frequent participant of the Chicagoland APBA Tournament. I am slogging through a 1966 NL replay and hope to finish before I die.

One Comment:

  1. Thank you, Tom! We are always very grateful for your continued support of the LBS tourney and the efforts of all community members running regional tournaments.
