John Roels hosting the Island City Classic on April 9th in Plainwell, MI

It is the beginning of APBA tournament season. Not only is Rich Zawadzki hosting the GMABT on March 5th but longtime tourney veteran John Roels (that’s him rolling dem bones at the Glass City tourney last year above) is going to host his own in April.

Here are the details from John:

Plainwell’s Fortress of Solitude is having its first APBA tourney on Saturday, April 9. Plainwell is just north of Kalamazoo off 131. The theme is “Second Chances” and invites teams from 1901 through 2019 that did not win their league, qualify for a playoff game, or appear in a playoff game.

I have the information so you can email me for the rules (3 man rotation; no DH). The venue is modest in size with room for about 16 teams. Recover from Jackson with a small town vibe; and warm up for Chicago in July!

Leave a comment if you’re interested in attending and I’ll make sure John will see it.

I am an IT consultant by day and an APBA media mogul by night. My passions are baseball (specifically Illini baseball), photography and of course, APBA. I have been fortunate to be part of the basic game Illowa APBA League since 1980 as well as a frequent participant of the Chicagoland APBA Tournament. I am slogging through a 1966 NL replay and hope to finish before I die.

  1. My two brothers and I are thinking of joining this tournament. Is there room for the three of us?
