Late-season rally helps Naps win Caborn’s 1913 AL replay

1913 replay

Cleveland was a surprise winner in Rod Caborn’s 1913 American League replay, completed this past June. The AL replay was pitcher-centric with the league ERA of 2.62 and average team batting average of .216 (v. .256 in real life).

Caborn reports that while the batting stats were underwhelming because of a combination of over-rated pitching and undercarded batting, the results that unfolded were highly entertaining. Cleveland came back from an 11-game deficit to upset the powerful Philadelphia Athletics and the surging Washington Senators, clinching the AL crown on the final day of the season

I wrote a few days ago about TBL’s Walt Hunt and Bob Jordan and their expertise in APBA league documentation.  Rod Caborn is their soul brother on the solo replay side of things.  Take a look at Rod’s fantastic recap.  You’ll find out about the tight race, the Naps’ comeback, and the efforts by Joe Jackson, Walter Johnson (14 shutouts!) and others.

Great stuff to read!

thanks, Rod!

I am an IT consultant by day and an APBA media mogul by night. My passions are baseball (specifically Illini baseball), photography and of course, APBA. I have been fortunate to be part of the basic game Illowa APBA League since 1980 as well as a frequent participant of the Chicagoland APBA Tournament. I am slogging through a 1966 NL replay and hope to finish before I die.
